Culture and Health
Culture Northwest drives and promotes the role of culture in health.
This has been delivered through various programmes of activity including:
- Sports Network Manager - a post established in partnership with Sport England to action ‘North West on the Move’. A regional plan for sport & physical activity brings together stakeholder agencies, organisations and partners across the region from the private, public and voluntary sectors. The aim is to increase participation in sport and physical activity in all communities, and to reduce inequality in participation amongst priority groups
- ‘Work out for Health’ – a regional pilot project aiming to get England’s workplaces healthier. Part of the national ‘Well@Work’ pilot a joint programme led by the British Heart Foundation with Active England, Sport England and the Big Lottery Fund
- Culture & Health Building the Evidence – a Northwest Culture Observatory Publication bringing together resources to build the evidence base and initiate and improve culture and health evaluation and research.
- Participation in Sports, the Arts, Physical and Creative Activities in England’s Northwest - commissioned by NWDA in association with Sport England, Arts Council England, North West and the Northwest Culture Observatory (March-05)
- Creating Positive Health –a 2004 Think Tank delivered in partnership with the NHS

‘Work Out for Health’, part of the national Well@Work pilot, aims to effect positive differences in North West employees’ health and achieve lasting improvements to their lifestyles.
